Children's Ministry SkitsMake a living Bible--A unique and interactive teaching tool--Quick Bible skits for today's kids--No memorization required!

A great resource for Sundays, midweek, summer classes or children's church! A part for every kid. Non-speaking parts too! (For readers and some non-readers, but mostly for grades 2-8.) The following impromptu skit was performed by children, ages K-5th grade. From start to finish, it took approximately one hour of class time to prepare and perform this skit.

Teacher Introduction

Lights, Camera, Action Bible Skits require little to no set up for staging or costuming. However children can participate in making background scenes as part of their hands-on Bible skit experience. If possible, provide a costume box for the actors to dress-up for their part. Videotaping your skits will make it more fun, and will reinforce the lesson when the class watches the video. It will also provide a living Bible memory-maker for your church! The amount of time you put into the skit is determined by how elaborate you want to make them. You could easily spend several weeks creating the sets and costumes, or spend no time at all with that aspect of it. For smaller classes, children may act out more than one part. For larger classes I have intentionally written certain parts such as crowd, disciples or Pharisees, so more than one actor could play those parts if needed. Following each skit are several life application questions to further enhance your Bible lesson time.

Have fun teaching your kids to act on their faith!

Sample Skit

Act One - Scene 2: Choosing The Twelve (Based on Mark 1:14-3:19)

Set and Costume Preparation: Use Bible-time costumes or improvise costumes. Fishing gear and nets would be fun to include. A background scene with boats and the Sea of Galilee would be a great addition (Children can draw this or copy a picture onto an overhead projector sheet, then project it onto the wall). You will need a table area for the dinner scene at Levi's house (real or imaginary). Pillows on the floor around a taped off area would be fine. (Improvise, improvise, improvise!)

Choose Your Actors: Narrator, Jesus, Simon, Andrew, James, John, Zebedee, Levi, Tax Collector/crowd of sinners (one or more actors as needed), Pharisee (one or more actors as needed).

Director: Lights, Camera, Action!

Narrator: After John was put in prison, Jesus went into the town of Galilee, telling the good news about God.

Jesus: The time has come, the kingdom of God is near. Follow God's way of living and not your own way. Believe the good news!

Narrator: As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers fishing.

Andrew: Look, there's Jesus, the Teacher we've heard so much about! He is amazing!

Jesus: Hey, Simon and Andrew, "Come, follow me, and I will make you fishers of men."

Simon: Did you hear that Andrew? He wants to make us fishers of men.

Andrew: Fishers of men? What's that?

Simon: I'm not sure, but let's find out. Let's go right now! I wouldn't want him to change his mind!

Narrator: When they had gone a little farther, Jesus saw James, son of Zebedee, and his brother John in a boat, preparing their nets.

Zebedee: Why is that man waving at us?

Jesus: James and John, come, follow me! I've chosen you to be my disciples!

James: Fantastic! What's a disciple do?

Jesus: My disciples obey my teaching and become my messengers to tell others what I've taught them.
