1) Parable of the Ten Virgins Dear SSTN:For Latha Jones who asked for a skit about the 10 Virgins: We used this parable as an Object Lesson a few weeks ago, but not as a skit. Perhaps you can derive something from the object lesson for your use. Here it is: Holy Spirit as Oil in our Lamps ( from: Matthew 25:1-13)( Object: old style oil lamp, preferably in working condition (or picture of one);if desired, matches to light lamp Lesson: Explain how people down through the ages have used oil lamps for light. Then describe how Jesus used the oil lamp as a symbol of a new believer. God’s Holy Spirit is the “oil” in the lamp which burns and gives light in and around the lamp. When we ask Jesus into our hearts, the Holy Spirit enters and begins the process of producing wonderful burning light in us to love others and show them the “Gospel Light” of Jesus.
2) South African Connection Dear SSTN Bev and I made friends after we shared several ideas via your network, and she began to recognize my style of writing. Eventually I gave her my email and we hit the gmail chat lines. We were like twins. Same passion for teaching, and growing children in the Lord. I was Pentecostal and she was a good Baptist. In December she flew over to South African with several very large boxes with curriculum, CEF material, flannel stories for the whole bible, puppets etc, that she had collected from people she spoke to. Some new some secondhand. We have been so blessed by her being a missionary for us as we are a very poor church in South Africa. She took time to train several churches while she was here in the use of memory verse ideas, puppets, visual aids etc and left some duplicates which I am going to share with the churches that reach out in the squatter camps and refugee camp (mainly Zimbabweans) children. Our Sunday school is abuzz with visual aids, bible stories, music etc - so thanks to your site - we are now more effective in reaching the little ones for Jesus. 3) Holy Week Museum My first newsletter had this idea in it and I knew that God taught through the email. I immediately adopted the idea for an Easter pageant that we performed on Palm Sunday. We had ten tables across the front of the Church. A “group” of children were then conducted through the museum from table to table. Each adult read a bible verse(s) pertinent to the item on the table and responded to a staged question from the children. The children sang, performed a” Jesus” cheer, an laid down palm leaves along the aisle. The men assembled a cross and one of the children sang a solo—“The Old Rugged Cross”. We ended with a poem written for the occasion and a prayer. The Road to Calvary—An Easter Pageant. Thank you for the suggestion. Beverly
4) Easter Eggs...what else? For Easter I once was a part of a class where the teacher had plastic Easter eggs that came apart and inside each of them were things that reminded us of something of Jesus during his ministry through the time of the cross, and his resurrection. One child might receive an egg that has a piece of sponge in it, and the teacher can ask the group, or the child what it reminds us of. It reminds me of the hyssop that was put on a stick and offered to Jesus that he might drink. It held the drink that was offered to him. He knew when to receive it and when to refuse it. He did so in humility. Humility might be represented by a piece of burlap. A stone might remind us of the stone that was put over the grave where he was buried, the one the angel of God moved away, the same that was sealed by the ring of the king, but was broken by the power of God. Mustard seed might remind us of the word Jesus sowed, a grain of wheat reminding us of how Jesus said that it must fall to the ground before it could produce a harvest, lest it should abide alone. 5) Gospel Alphabet Song? Does anyone know where I could find the lyrics to a vacation bible school song from several years ago that starts out “A-A-A admit to God that you are a sinner, B-B-B believe that Jesus is God’s only Son, C-C-C Commit your life to the Lord above and ask Him to fill you up with His love”?
