Gearing Up!

I hope you've had a great summer and are ready for the new semester!

As the school year begins and children's ministries across the world are gearing up for a new season, what will you teach the children in your ministry? Do you use a themed curriculum of Bible Lesson Plans, such as "The Beatitudes," "The Miracles of Jesus," or "The Lord's Prayer," or do you each week jump from one topic to the next?

It is my belief that children will better grasp the Scriptures if you spend time moving through a series of lessons on specific subject matter, than if you jump from topic to topic. This coming semester I will be teaching "The Prayer of Jesus." I would love to have you join me as we move through the program. And as we teach the lessons, we can share additional ideas and inspirations that come to mind.

Kick-Off Session

This coming Saturday we're having our "kick-off" session for the new year. It will be a fun-filled water day. We'll also be making "model boats" that are balloon-powered! Why are we making model boats you may ask? Well, for one, it is fun; but other than that, to emphasize the purpose of a “model,” that it's a replica or representation of a person or thing, in this case, a boat. (Hopefully, our boats will loosely resemble the real thing.) Likewise, the Lord’s Prayer is a model or an example that represents how we are to pray. This semester we will teach our children about Jesus' prayer model; they will learn to memorize the prayer to hide it in their hearts. We will also teach them sign language to sign the prayer.

I'll also photograph the children making and playing with their "model boats," and then post the pics in next week's newsletter. I'll post them even sooner on our Facebook page. So if you haven't liked our Facebook page, please do so now to receive our updates.

If you are interested in downloading the directions to the balloon-powered boat, let me know. If enough people are interested, I'll make it available for purchase for a small fee. I will then also include a discount to purchase the curriculum. (Win, win!)
