Prayer?
SSTN has developed a Prayer Board just for it's members. We ask that if
you submit your requests, the pray for others too! We also
ask that you guard this area and monitor it for abuses that could arise. It is

2) Teacher's Manual?
I have a question. I think at one time someone shared their teacher’s manual, and I was wondering if you know of anyone who put together a teacher’s manual for teaching religious education.
Thank you,
Julie Ward

4) Joshua song
We sing Joshua fought the battle of Jericho, but we added a verse to it:
now Rahab hid the soldiers there
in her apartment in the tower in the wall
she let down the cord that was red
her family- God saved them all!

6) Pledges, Golden Rule & Three Buttons?
Hello,
I am trying to remember something I used to do as a kid in Bible school. We always began each session with the Pledge to the US flag, the Christian flag and the Bible. Then we would put on imaginary long gloves with buttons like this:
a. As you pretend to push the gloves onto your individual fingers, you would recite the Golden Rule. (fingers sliding down each finger on the other hand as if pushing the fingers of the glove onto the hand)
Do - thumb, left hand
unto - index finger, left hand
others - middle finger, left hand
as - ring finger, left hand
you - pinky finger, left hand
would - whole left hand (slide right hand over left and down the arm part way, as if to push on the glove all the way)
have - thumb, right hand
the - index finger, right hand
others - middle finger, right hand
do - ring finger, right hand
unto - pinky finger, right hand
you - whole right hand
b. Then we would "button" three buttons on the left arm - saying "Love one another" and "button" three buttons on the right arm
[saying] - ?????
I cannot remember what we called this or what the last three words were that we said. Does anyone else remember doing this as a child. I grew up in southeastern Ohio and am not sure if was just something a creative teacher taught us.

--from SSTN: very interesting.
Maybe the next words are, "...as I love you."
(not three words, but they do complete the thought. ;o) )

8) Skit: Honoring Fathers and Mothers
Hi Lara,
Your timing is great. I just finished writing a short skit on the fourth commandment (Honor Your Parents) for VBS on God's Top Ten (10 Commandments). It is a discussion between a grandson and grandpa about why the grandpa is so smart. If you are interested in seeing it
[go to http://www.sundayschoolnetwork.com/skits.html
and click on "Honoring Parents: Grandpa why...?"] You can also find a skit about honoring parents (skit # 3) at
http://www.kirkofkildaire.org/quest/FQlessons/TenCommandmentsPuppets.htm
.
Take Care,
Connie G.

9) Tool Shed: Construction Theme
A few years ago I developed a theme for our second hour of Sunday School. I called it the "Tool Shed"
It was very popular with our kids. I found construction Bible decorations at our local teachers store. These were
based on Christian virtues. Each month I did a bulletin board with a different virtue and lessons were planned
around the virtue using the Rotation model. The name "Tool Shed" was based on the premise that Jesus was the
carpenter who gave us the building tools we need to "follow Him."
For decorations I had a parent design a door decoration that looked like an old tool shed. When kids came
through the door, they put on their carpenter's aprons and grabbed their tool kits. Inside the tool kit was
something that related to the character lesson of the month. We all had fun in this class, and because it was the
second hour of Sunday School, I had more freedom to plan creatively. As a direct result of this class I developed
a service club for children called, "M & M's" (Mission Minded kids).
I hope this helps!
Cherie
--from SSTN: Great idea. If you're willing to share it, we'd love to learn
more about the program. ;o)
