7) Story Telling Methods
Our after school Bible club (held in public school) is called The Great Adventure Club. This club targets 3-5th grade. Some of our 80+ kids have Bible or church background but many do not. To level out the gap between those 2 groups - we have had to structure our club as though we are working as missionaries with people that have never heard of Jesus.
The kids are actually looking up scripture together - helping one another (we are blessed with 2-3 adults per 8-10 kids too). 1 scripture is looked up - then the lesson is shared using the scripture and leads up to the next scripture they look up. Usually 4 scriptures are used that link Truth in the Old and New Testaments with practical application to today.
Each lesson also has a trinket size object that is worked into the lesson. The kids each get one of the small objects to take home. We give a review at least twice during our 90 minutes together on how they can tell the story to family and friends from showing the object. They are challenged to do just that and report the next week on who they told and interaction they have had in sharing the story.
We also have a game time that reinforces the lesson and helps gets the wiggles out.
We are preparing for the 6-week spring club now. It is called Faith Race-Marathon Relay. Our first lesson is on the 40 year marathon the Israelites experienced. Their object will be a small tennis shoe key chain. This will represent the miracle that the clothes and the shoes the Israelites wore didn't wear out during their "marathon". On the "soul" of the shoe will be the acronym J.O.G. This stands for Just Obey God. JOG will be a repeated theme throughout our Faith Race - reminding the kids that if they will just remember to always JOG they will finish the race.
Another prize will be a bookmark cross that also has a ruler on it. This will be for the story of Joseph - representing that his marathon was long and hard but he always remembered to JOG and he completed his marathon as a "ruler" over his own brothers that had sold him into slavery. We will mention that not many would "measure" up to the challenge that was as tough as Joseph's - and those that don't JOG will not know what awesome blessings that God has for us along the way in the marathon race of life.
Their memory verse is from Hebrews 12:1-2, "...let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us; let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the Author and Perfecter of our lives."
The kids are always so intrigued at what the prize will be and can't wait to tell their leaders the story that goes with it. And yes, better yet, this little prize helps them to share Bible Truths at home and in their community as they share the lesson they learned with others.

8) Story Telling
Methods
I have done a storytelling technique by dressing as the character. Example: I have rented a shepherd's costume complete with a staff. I made a rod (club) using a 2x2 wood block (24"-26"long) and rounding the edges. I found a small glass pitcher that had a cork lid in it (that represented the oil) and then I used the 23rd Psalm. I used the books "A Shepherd Looks At Psalm 23" by Phillip Keller; "God's Psychiatry" by Charles Allen; "Discovery Series Bible Study: Psalm 23, The Lord Is My Shepherd" by Discovery House Publishers. Phillip Keller's book uses a shepherd and a sheep's view of each verse from Psalm 23. It gives a whole new meaning and understanding of the life of a shepherd and the challenges of tending sheep.
Another lesson I am developing is using the Armor of God lesson actually wearing a Roman soldier's costume. I am saving money to purchase the costume and also a shepherd's costume so that I can do these lessons whenever or wherever the Lord leads me to do them.

Seton Home Study School (www.setonbooks.com) used to put out a tape that had this song and some other classics on it. I couldn't find it on their website just now, but it is worth calling them to inquire about it. I'll bet they do still carry it.
There's also a 10 Commandments song to the tune of "The Twelve Days of Christmas" by the Dogma Dogs, that my class liked. Most kids knew the melody, and if they didn't, they learned it quickly enough because of all the repetition.
