"Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold,
new things have come" 2 Corinthians 5:17-18.
Our sins separate us from God. But because God loves us, he came to earth to die on the cross to take the punishment for our sins.
When we trust and follow him—Jesus—we are forgiven and we become his children.
We become new creatures—a new creation. The word in the Bible that describes this change is
from the word that describes how a caterpillar becomes a butterfly, it becomes a new creature.
This is why Christians use the symbol of the butterfly to represent new life in
Jesus.
Today, we will make butterflies to remember that we are new creatures in Christ!
Supplies
2 white, round, paper coffee filters, 1 black pipe cleaner, washable colored
markers, clean water.
Process
Step 1: Flatten the coffee filters. (Look at butterfly
photographs for your inspiration.)
Step 2: Use washable markers to color the coffee filter.
Step 3: Dip fingers in water and tap the filter. Use just enough water to
make the colors bleed. (See close up, below.) Allow to dry.
Step 4: Scrunch the filters in the middle. Fan the outside edges.
Step 5: Loop the pipe cleaner around the two coffee filters. Curl the ends to look like the antennas on a butterfly. (See picture at the top of the page.)
