The Garden Command

When God created the heavens and the earth, he declared that it was good, with one exception; it was not good for Adam to be alone (Genesis 2:18). So God created the perfect complimentary partner* for Adam, a woman, and he named her Eve. Only then did God declare his creation, very good.

God then gave Adam and Eve one command in the garden, "You shall not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die." (Genesis 2:17).

But was that really the only command God gave the pair? No, in fact, before God said don't eat, he told them, "be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it" (Genesis 1:28).

God gave them instruction of what they "should" do and what they "should not" do.

Jesus confirmed this good command of heterosexual marriage when he said, "from the beginning of creation, ‘God made them male and female.’ ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’" (Mark 10:6-8).

As our godless culture progresses, it’s astonishing that this biological fact isn’t obvious to everyone. Yet, in 2023 it’s necessary to proclaim that two women together or two men together cannot fulfill God’s command to be fruitful and multiply. Only within the confines of heterosexual marriage, is God's very good plan accomplished.

*Eve was a suitable helper for Adam. This was not an inferior position. In fact, the Hebrew word for helper is from the same root word applied to God in Psalm 10:14, ". . . you are the helper of the fatherless."
